About this product

This is a one-handed cordless chainsaw for pruning, limbing and small firewood, built to run on Makita 18V batteries instead of a proprietary pack - which is the whole point if you already own that system, and also the first thing to get wrong. It uses a 12-inch (about 30 cm) bar with a 3/8-inch low-profile chain, a brushless motor, tool-free chain tensioning and automatic bar oiling. Before ordering, check three things. First, the battery terminal: it takes the Makita 18V slide-on interface, the LXT / B-series such as BL1830, BL1840, BL1850 and BL1860. The 18V G-series packs (BL1813G, BL1413G, DC18WA) use a different terminal and will not fit, and neither will 12V CXT or old Ni-Cd packs. Second, confirm whether the listing includes a battery and charger or ships as a bare tool - most Makita-compatible tools are bare, and the title alone does not settle it. Third, remember that a 12-inch bar is for branches and small logs rather than trunks: continuous heavy cutting heats the motor and bar, and the chain needs bar-and-chain oil topped up regularly or the bar will burn. Confirm battery fitment, kit contents and chain pitch with the seller before ordering.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • Brushless motor with a 12-inch bar covers pruning, limbing, small firewood and light woodwork
  • Runs on Makita 18V slide-on batteries, so anyone already on that system shares packs instead of buying another ecosystem
  • Tool-free chain tensioning and automatic bar oiling keep daily maintenance simple
  • Compact and one-handed: faster than a hand saw for branches and far less fuss than a petrol saw

Cons

  • Fits only the Makita 18V slide-on terminal (LXT / B-series such as BL1830, BL1840, BL1850) - the G-series BL1813G / BL1413G, DC18WA and 12V CXT use a different terminal and will not attach
  • The title does not say whether a battery and charger are included; most Makita-compatible tools ship bare, so confirm the kit contents before ordering
  • Needs bar-and-chain oil on hand and regular tension checks; running it dry will burn the bar
  • A 12-inch bar is for branches and small logs only - thick trunks or long continuous cutting will overheat it
